The bow is made of bamboo, and the quiver of wood and colored leather. The bow is shaped into three curves, to allow easier and more comfortable use, and the ends are curled into loops for attaching the bowstring. These loops were covered in leather for additional strength. The quiver is a triangular, slightly tapering tube of wood, adorned with strips of leather in shades of red, green and brown, and decorated with figures of animals such as horses and deer.

The Grand Palace (as it known in English) was built in 1897 after the Palace of the Industry (Palais de l’Industrie) was demolished. It was intended to be a part of the preparatory works for the 1900 Universal Exposition. The architectural style used for the structure was Beaux-Arts, incorporating ornate decoration, stone facades and techniques such as glass vaulting and iron and light steel framing as well as reinforced concrete.

For art, antique and art-history lovers alike therefore, this upcoming exhibition is certain to satisfy.

Here is a marvelous Hellenistic head of the Greek Goddess Aphrodite that was contributed to an art exhibit sponsored by the French watchmaker Audemars Piguet. The marble bust, dating back to the 4th or beginning of the 3rd century B.C.E. is part of the exhibit “Art and Watch making, Le Temps au Féminin,” which is part of the “Association pour l’Art en Vieille Ville – AVV” in Geneva. The exhibit runs from May 1st to May 9th, 2009.
