The Versailles Foundation Inc., recently held its annual benefit dinner. The foundation – established with the purpose of “promoting French-American friendship and cultural exchange, primarily through providing support for the preservation, maintenance and rehabilitation of important French historical monuments” – each year holds the benefit within the presence of a member of the Royal family.
President of the foundation is Barbara de Portago who this year brought Their Royal Highnesses The Hereditary Prince & Princess Bernhard of Baden to the dinner. Today, Prince Baden is the administrator of the House of Baden – one of Germany’s largest wineries.
The event was attended by many who have a keen interest in global art and culture. For example, Hicham Aboutaam of Phoenix Ancient Art, who came with Marina Couloucoundis who was once an opera singer with the New York City Opera Inc. In addition, Allison Rockefeller, a US conservationist and philanthropist and the founder of Cornerstone Parks, came with her husband Peter Rockefeller, Managing Director of G2 Investment Group.
The Versailles/ Giverny Foundation continues to work on restoring the world’s finest Museum of Outdoor Statuary, housed in the Château (for protection) and their replicas place in the Park of the Château de Versailles. Such restorative work would likely be in line with causes close to the hearts of conservationists supporting the foundation.
